Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site Guided Tour

  • 13 reviews | 158 travellers
Although it is not one of the most touristic and well-known places in Barcelona, it is well worth it, whether you want to see modernist buildings or if you are interested in knowing what a hospital was like in the past. Without a doubt, the experience of taking a guided tour has nothing to do with visiting this place on your own. In our case, the visit was also private, since only my family was in the group, so it allowed us to see it calmly and ask all the questions that occurred to us.

Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site Guided Tour

Our guided tour of the Sant Pau Modernista Complex will begin at Avenida de Gaudí, 76.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the architect Pere Domènech i Roura designed the so-called Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, made up of different pavilions. This large sanitary complex gave way to a much more modern center, but the old enclosure remains one of the crown jewels of Catalan modernism. During our visit, we'll visit different enclaves of this great architectural work, declared a World Heritage Site.

To have a better understanding of the decision to erect the Sant Pau complex, we'll visit one of the most unique spaces on the site: the Sant Salvador Pavilion, which houses an exhibition on the history of medicine. The building also hosts an interesting exhibition on Catalan modernist architecture, the main characteristics of which are embodied in this great work.

After visiting other outstanding pavilions of the enclosure, we'll finish the tour by visiting the gardens of Sant Pau, also designed in an unmistakable Modernist style.

After an hour and 15 minutes, we'll end the guided tour near the starting point.
