European Museum of Modern Art – MEAM

European Museum of Modern Art – MEAM

The Museu Europeu d’Art Modern (MEAM) in Barcelona features and promotes twentieth and twenty-first century figurative art, making the works of contemporary figurative artists known. Located in the heart of Barcelona, in the Born neighborhood, the European Museum of Modern Art is housed in the striking Palau Gomis.

Collection

The eighteenth-century mansion that houses the European Museum of Modern Art is divided into three floors. It contains a total of 230 twentieth and twenty-first century works of art belonging to 200 artists, from the least to the most experienced, and from various continents. The museum houses several collections including Art-Deco, twentieth century Catalan sculpture, twentieth century Modern sculpture and contemporary figurative art, some of which stand out for their surprising realism.

A startling museum

The European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona contrasts with other worldwide Modern Art museums, since it features figurative art instead of abstract and non-objective art, which is usually represented in these museums, so, if you like realism, we recommend you include this museum in your itinerary.
