Montserrat Day Trip
Explore one of Spain’s most important religious sites with this Montserrat Day Trip. Discover why Napoleon, Himmler and other historic figures visited Monserrat Abbey in search of the Holy Grail.
Montserrat Day Trip
We'll see you bright and early at Passeig de Lluís Companys and then travel to the Monastery of Montserrat, just over an hour away from Barcelona.
The famous broken profile of Montserrat will welcome us as we approach our destination. The Nazis visited this very location in the 1940s in the hope of finding the Holy Grail here. We'll learn about all these stories including those relating to the Napoleonic troops.
At the Museum of Montserrat, we'll discover why this sanctuary has been so attractive throughout history. You'll find out about the extraordinary collections it houses, including archaeological pieces from the Middle East, works by artists such as Berruguete, Caravaggio, Dalí, Picasso... The collection we'll visit is completed with canvases by Luca Giordano, Monet, Degas... A real delight for art lovers!
We'll also take a guided tour of the Abbey of Montserrat. Here we'll find outstanding Gothic and Renaissance pieces. The centre of attention is the Virgin of "la Moreneta", the popular name by which the patron saint of Catalonia is known. Finally, we'll put the finishing touch to our visit with a Montserrat liqueurs tasting.
We'll arrive back at the starting point between 12 pm and 1 pm.
The activity takes place with a guide that speaks in English.
