Temporary Exhibitions
With this ticket, you can also visit the following temporary exhibitions open to the public.
The matter of shapes - Edward Weston (until September 23)
This exhibition offers a survey of the work of Edward Weston, one of the key figures in the consolidation of photography as an artistic discipline in the 20th century. From his early works influenced by Pictorialism, to his firm commitment to direct photography, the exhibition allows us to discover a gaze that is deeply connected with the landscape and North American cultural identity. Co-founder of the f/64 Group, his images capture the essence of a new aesthetic that emerged in the United States between the wars with sobriety and poetic force.
A Decade of Turmoil (1929-1939) - Joan Andreu Puig Farran (until September 23)
Through a careful selection of original period prints, this exhibition recovers the work of Joan Andreu Puig Farran, a photojournalist who intensely documented the years before and after the Spanish Civil War. A direct witness to a period marked by profound social and political changes, he worked for several Catalan media groups and was sent to the fronts in Aragon and Mallorca. Exiled in France in 1939, he returned to Barcelona in 1945, where he devoted himself to industrial and tourist photography. This exhibition is the first opportunity to see his work brought together in one room, rescuing from the archives of La Vanguardia a view that is as valuable as it is unedited.
Helen Levitt (from September 24, 2025 to February 1, 2026)
With nearly 200 photographs organised into nine sections, this exhibition delves into the visual universe of Helen Levitt, considered one of the great chroniclers of urban life in 20th-century New York. From the late 1930s, her camera focused on the city's poorest neighbourhoods, where children and everyday scenes became the protagonists of images full of emotion, humour and mystery. Her work, committed and profoundly human, is today an irreplaceable testimony to the vitality of the streets.
KBr FLAMA'25 (from September 24, 2025 to February 1, 2026)
The fifth edition of the KBr FLAMA cycle brings together the work of four young photographers: Bernat Erra, Irina Cervelló, Abril Coudougnan and Patrick Martin. Selected by a specialised jury, their projects explore the construction of memory in different dimensions with a critical and sensitive eye: intimate, collective and territorial. This exhibition confirms Fundación MAPFRE's commitment to emerging talent and offers the public the opportunity to approach the most promising voices of new contemporary photography.
